RICHMOND, Va. (AP/WBOC) - A 16-year-old boy charged in adult court in the assault of a young girl and the killing of her 8-year-old brother has been ordered to undergo a psychiatric evaluation.
A Richmond circuit judge ordered the evaluation Thursday at the request of the defendant's attorney. Prosecutors didn't object.

Mairese J. Washington is charged with second-degree murder in the May 1 beating death of Martin Cobb and malicious wounding and strangulation in the assault on Cobb's 12-year-old sister. Cobb suffered severe head trauma during the attack that occurred in South Richmond.

The case was moved to circuit court from Richmond Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court.

Washington has a lengthy juvenile criminal record.
