Delmarva Shorebirds Series Opener Postponed to Monday Doubleheader
SALISBURY, Md. - The series opener between the Delmarva Shorebirds and Greensboro Grasshoppers was postponed Sunday evening because of wet grounds at Arthur W. Perdue Stadium. The Delmarva Shorebirds Director of Broadcasting, Doug Newton, says the weekend rain hitting the Eastern Shore made the field conditions unplayable.
Newton says the game will be made up as part of a doubleheader on Monday. He says the doubleheader will consist of two seven-inning contests, with the first pitch for game one scheduled for 5:05 p.m. The second game will start approximately 30 minutes following the conclusion of the opening game. Newton says gates at Perdue Stadium will open at 4:30 pm on Monday evening.
Newton says the Shorebirds' "Float for the Fund Night," sponsored by Mug Root Beer and Georgeo's Italian Ice, will be rescheduled at a later date. Those fans who received tickets through their libraries' summer reading program courtesy of College Savings Plans of Maryland can exchange their tickets for any remaining 2014 Shorebirds regular season home game, according to Newton.
