STANTON, Del. (AP) - Delaware State Police say a homeless man was shot after a struggle with a homeowner who found him sleeping in a bedroom.
Troopers say the homeowner and her teenage son arrived at their Wilmington home just before 6 a.m. Tuesday. Officers say the two saw signs of a break-in.
Police say the woman and her son found a man asleep in a bedroom and confronted him. Troopers say an altercation ensued and the homeowner shot the man in the buttocks with a handgun.
Authorities say the man fled, but was quickly arrested. Troopers have obtained a warrant charging 21-year-old Gregory Alexander with criminal trespass and offensive touching. Police say he will be arraigned after he is discharged from the hospital.
Troopers say the homeowner legally owns the handgun.
