WASHINGTON (AP) - Attorneys are set to make closing arguments in a case that will determine the future of one of the nation's oldest museums and one of the few independent art galleries in the nation's capital.

Trustees of the Corcoran Gallery of Art are seeking to merge the museum and its college into George Washington University and the National Gallery of Art, dissolving the independent Corcoran after years of financial troubles. A group of current students and faculty has fought the merger in court, arguing there are ways to save the Corcoran.

On Wednesday, both sides will make final arguments. A District of Columbia judge is expected to decide the Corcoran's fate in the coming days before the new school year at the Corcoran College of Art and Design.
