Virginia Man Pleads Guilty in Counterfeit Stamp Scheme

Posted: Updated:

ALEXANDRIA, Va. (AP) - Prosecutors say a Virginia man has pleaded guilty to counterfeiting and selling approximately $76,000 in metered postage stamps at two packaging centers he owned in the state.

Prosecutors say 38-year-old Brian Kim of Fairfax pleaded guilty Tuesday in federal court to defrauding the U.S. Postal Service. Prosecutors say Kim acknowledged as part of a plea agreement that from January to October 2013 he counterfeited postage stamps, and he acknowledged putting those stamps on packages and letters that customers brought into his packaging centers in Fairfax and Arlington.

Prosecutors say customers did not know about the scheme.

Kim's attorney, Joshua Berman, declined to comment on the case.

Sentencing is set for Nov. 7. Kim faces up to 20 years in prison.
