ASSATEAGUE ISLAND, Va. – The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service selected its new project leader for the Chincoteague National Wildlife Refuge.

Kevin Sloan, a 27-year veteran, will begin Oct. 5 after working for Crab Orchard National Wildlife Refuge in Illinois, officials said.

Sloan started working with the Service in 1987 and continued his career in five regions and four programs, according to officials, who noted that he has held management positions in eight states.

Sloan says he wants to continue managing the wildlife habitat in Chincoteague and find sustainable solutions to improve the island barrier.
