Del. Inmate Dies, Death Investigated as Suicide

Posted: Updated:

SMYRNA, Del. (AP/WBOC) - Corrections officials say the death of an inmate is being investigated as a suicide.

The Department of Corrections say 26-year-old Blaise DeJesus of Viola was pronounced dead about 10 p.m. Tuesday at the James T. Vaughn Correctional Center near Smyrna.

Officials say DeJesus was awaiting placement in a substance abuse program. Authorities say he was sentenced for a violation of probation on Friday.

His body was turned over to the medical examiner at the Division of Forensic Science, which officials say is standard procedure. Authorities say foul play is not suspected.

The investigation is being handled by the Delaware State Police.
