DOVER, Del. – The Wesley College field hockey team invites former Wolverines players as they celebrate with head coach Tracey Shortwho is entering her 20th season as head coach of the Wolverines. A picnic will be held at DuPont Field (511 Mary Street, Dover, DE 19901) on Saturday, September 20 at 12 pm.
Arriving at Wesley in 1995 after a star-studded playing career at Salisbury University, Short has led Wesley to three NCAA Tournament and received five Coach of the Year Awards, including the Regional Coach of the Year Award in 1997 when she led the Wolverines to a program-best 17-3 record. Since Wesley joined the Capital Athletic Conference, arguably the strongest Conference in Division III Field Hockey, in 2007, the Wolverines have advanced to the league playoffs each year and went to three-straight CAC Championship Games (2010-2012)
Short's 242 victories as head coach not only rank her among Division III's winningest active coaches, but among the top 50 all-time among coaches from all NCAA Divisions.
Short was a two-sport athlete at Salisbury (field hockey/softball) and was the starting goalkeeper for a team that made four NCAA Tournaments and won the National Championship in 1986. Short also assisted with the Sea Gulls field hockey team for two years following graduation. Earning All-America honors between the cage as a senior, as well as two All-Region awards, Short also was the softball team's captain, participated in three post-season tournaments and was inducted into the Salisbury University Athletic Hall of Fame in 2001.
Short also served as the head softball coach at Snow Hill High in 1991 before leading her alma mater, North Dorchester High School, to the Playoffs for the first time in eight seasons in 1992.
Wesley opens the 2014 season when it hosts Lynchburg on Saturday, August 30 at 2 pm.
