DOVER, Del. (WBOC/AP) - The Delaware Division of Forensic Science has begun to notify the families of some of the cremated remains that turned up in a former funeral home in Dover.

The DFS took possession of the remains, discovered at the former Minus Funeral Home on North Queen Street, Wednesday evening.

Officials say the cremated remains included nine victims of a 1978 mass cult suicide-murder in Jonestown, Guyana.

Last week, the DFS responded to a request to check the former dilapidated funeral home in Dover after 38 containers of cremated remains were discovered inside. Thirty-three containers were marked and identified. They spanned a period from about 1970 to the 1990s and included the Jonestown remains. The DFS said its staff will work to identify the current unidentified remains and will in turn notify family or arrange for final disposition.

As of late Friday night, the DFS had notified five families regarding the unclaimed cremains. Authorities say, of these five families, four were family members of the following Jonestown victims:Wanda Bonita King, Mary Rodgers, Irra Jean Johnson and Maud Ester Perkins.

Irvin Ray Perkins, from California, says he had been unable to determine what happened to his wife, Maud Ester Perkins' remains until Delaware officials contacted him on Thursday. He told the Associated Press he plans to put his wife's ashes on his mantle.

The DFS says along with some of the Jonestown victims, the family of Bryan Glass was also notified as belonging to one of the unclaimed cremains.

The DFS says they will continue working to notify family members. Additional names will be released following family notifications.
