Repairs on Northbound Span of the I-495 Bridge Remain on Schedule

Posted:
WILMINGTON, Del.- Delaware Department of Transportation says work on the northbound portion of the I-495 Bridge remains on schedule.

Construction crews are continuing to install steel bracing below the bridge deck this week. DelDOT says once that project is finished, the jacking operation can begin. The contractor is also backfilling around the concrete foundations and cleaning up the site.

According to DelDOT, jacking the northbound side of the bridge back into position is expected to be more difficult and take longer than it did on the southbound side of the bridge.  They say the lean is more severe.  DelDOT says there is a higher possibility of problems with the northbound span including the bending, cracking or breaking of different components.  If that happens, DelDOT says it will take longer to repair.

The project is still expected to be finished before the Labor Day Weekend.
