CAMBRIDGE, Md. - A project in Dorchester County will take another big step forward Friday.

The City of Cambridge will officially become the property owner of the Cambridge Marine Terminal on August 15.  According to the Associate Director of Cambridge Economic Development, with the settlement, the city plans to begin the wharf replacement project as soon as possible.

Cambridge was also assigned 'exclusive negotiating privilege' with the developer and will continue to negotiate the perimeters of the mixed-use project.

This spring Cambridge acquired Sailwinds Park from the state of Maryland. Cambridge also received about $4 million in grants to help repair the wharf, revitalize the park, and draw up plans for the future.

The Sailwinds 2020 project is the latest part of an effort to turn the area along the Choptank River into what some are calling a miniature Inner Harbor.
