Head-On Crash Leaves Three People Injured, Major Delays on Bay Bridge

ANNAPOLIS, Md.- A head-on collision on the Chesapeake Bay Bridge leaves three people injured, including a woman with critical injuries, and a 10-mile backup in both directions of the bridge.

According to the Maryland Transportation Authority, a head-on crash happened on the westbound span around 11 a.m.

MDTA First Sergeant Jonathan Green said the westbound span was open for two-way traffic at the time of the accident. Sgt.Green said three vehicles were involved in the collision.

He said a woman was flown to the Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore for life-threatening injuries. Sgt.Green said two men were transported to Anne Arundel Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.

The westbound span is now open to westbound traffic only.

All lanes reopened by 1:30 p.m. However, traffic is still backed up for miles.

Sgt. Green said the MDTA's Collision Reconstruction Unit is conducting an investgation on the accident.

Drivers are urged to avoid  taking the Bay Bridge at this time.
