FREDERICK, Md. (AP)- Police are investigating a shooting in Frederick involving a police officer who police say was struck by a car before firing his weapon.

The Frederick Police Department says it happened Saturday around 11:30 p.m. in the 1200 block of West Patrick Street. Police say officers observed a suspicious situation and that during the investigation the driver of a vehicle hit an officer with his car. Police say the officer then fired his weapon into the vehicle, striking the driver.

Police say the driver fled but was later taken into custody. Police say the driver and the officer were treated for injuries.

Lt. Clark Pennington says additional information will be released Sunday. He said he could not say more about the suspicious situation that led officers to investigate.
