FELTON, Del.- Delaware State Police say they arrested and charged a 44-year-old Felton man after they discovered he had a methamphetamine lab in a shed on his property.

Police said that just after 2:30 p.m. Sunday, troopers responded to a home in the 100 block of Bayberry Lane in Felton to investigate an unrelated cellphone theft complaint and possibly find the suspect connected to the theft.

Troopers said 44-year-old Robert B. Kibler was found hiding inside the home during a search of the property. Police said they then searched a shed on the property after smelling ammonia and chemicals. Authorities said they found equipment inside the shed that is used to manufacture methamphetamine, as well as a marijuana plant growing inside. Troopers said they also found six bottles that were determined to be active "one pot" portable meth labs used to manufacture methamphetamine, along with key ingredients in making the drug.

Kibler was taken into custody and charged with operating a clandestine lab, manufacturing methamphetamine, manufacturing marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was arraigned and committed to James T. Vaughn Correctional Center on $15,000 secured bond.

Troopers were assisted by the Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control and specialized local Delaware Volunteer Fire Company teams during the dismantling of the portable meth labs and cleanup and mitigation process to dispose of the waste. Police said there were no immediate threats or hazards to nearby residents so no evacuations were ordered.

Bayberry Road was closed for approximately two hours while the incident was investigated and cleared.
