Matt Haley Honored at Taste of Rehoboth

Posted:
REHOBOTH BEACH, Del. -  After his death Tuesday night, Matt Haley was honored by local restaurateurs at the 2nd annual Taste of Rehoboth on Thursday.

The event is held to recognize local restaurants as well as support the Food Bank of Delaware.  Downtown Rehoboth Beach hotspots feature special dishes to share with locals, and auctions are also held for charity.

This year a tribute was held in honor of Matt Haley, who owned two restaurants in Rehoboth Beach among six others in Southern Delaware.

After a moment of silence, Matt Dickinson, the director of operations for Haley's company, spoke about the humanitarian.  He told stories to a teary crowd about the man Haley was.

Jay Caputo, owner of Espuma and organizer of Taste of Rehoboth, said he hoped the event would celebrate the life and successes of Haley.

"Matt was a big part of the community, the restaurant community as a whole, and the world," he explained. "He was a philanthropist and just a really good guy, and it's a topic of conversation. I just can't believe that happened. We're going to try and make it more of a celebration tonight than a somber event."

Haley passed away Tuesday night after a tragic motorcycle accident in India, where he was on a six-week humanitarian trip.
