Police: 18 Bags of Marijuana Found in Suspect's Car

DOVER, Del. - A traffic stop turned into a drug bust just north of Reed Street, according to Dover Police.

It happened Tuesday at 3:20 p.m. on S. Bradford Street.

Police said members of their safe streets unit pulled Deon Maestre, 28, over for a traffic violation. When officers contacted Maestre they said they smelled a strong odor of marijuana coming from inside the car.

According to police, the officers searched the vehicle and found a black backpack containing 18 separate clear plastic sandwich bags containing marijuana, in total weighing 357.6 grams.

Police said the marijuana and Maestre's 2006 Chevrolet Impala were seized.

Maestre has been released on $200 unsecured bond.
