OCEAN CITY, Md.- An early morning assault turned deadly in Ocean City on Sunday.
Ocean City police said that at around 3:12 a.m., officers were called to the area of 109 North Atlantic Ave. for a reported assault. Upon arrival, police say they found a man who was unconscious and unresponsive in the parking lot of the Plim Plaza hotel.

Ocean City Police Department spokesperson Lindsay O'Neal said the incident did not occur in the Plim Plaza parking lot.

"It actually occurred at the corner of Talbot Street and Baltimore, but the people that he was with went to the Plim Plaza and that's where they called in 911 and we responded and found the victim to be unconscious and unresponsive," O' Neal said.

Police said the victim, identified as 37-year-old Justin Daniel Cancelliere, of North Whitehall, Pa., was taken to Atlantic General Hospital in Berlin for treatment and was later pronounced dead.

Police said they are reviewing the hotel's boardwalk webcam for anyone who may have been involved in the incident. They say an investigation into the cause, manner, and circumstances of the death is under way by Ocean City Police Department investigators.

"Well when you bring upwards of three hundred thousand people into just an area that's ten miles long and maybe two miles wide at it's widest point there's obviously going to be some crime that happens. Luckily for us we don't have very much crime that happens we are a very safe resort," O'Neal said.

Authorities said the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner of Maryland conducted an autopsy Monday.
