CLAYMONT, Del. (WBOC/AP)- New Castle County Police say a police dog helped corner a burglary suspect inside a Claymont home.

It happened about 7:35 a.m. Friday on the 900 block of Causez Avenue in the community of Northridge. Police say a relative of the resident had gone into the home and found a man asleep on the floor of an upstairs bedroom.

The relative left and called police. Authorities say an officer and his dog "Loki" searched the home and the dog found a man hiding under a bed. Police say the man was taken into custody after a brief struggle.

Police said the suspect, 21-year-old Joseph Alcaraz of Wilmington, was found to be in possession of several items of the victim's jewelry and one Alprazalam pill. He was charged with second-degree burglary, possession of burglary tools, attempted theft and possession of a controlled substance without a prescription. He was arraigned and released on $5,500 unsecured bail.
