REHOBOTH BEACH, Del.- Delaware State Police say troopers arrested a 50-year-old Lewes man for his fifth offense DUI after he wrecked and knocked down two utility poles near Rehoboth Beach Monday night.

It happened around 7:40 p.m. when Andrew J. Trala lost control of his car and overturned onto the grassy shoulder of Old Landing Road, according to police. A trailer that was attached to the truck also overturned, causing the paving equipment that was being hauled to break free and strike the utility poles.

Police said that after Trala fled from the scene, troopers located him at the Red Mill Inn on Coastal Highway north of Lewes and took him into custody. He was subsequently charged with his fifth offense driving under the influence (previous convictions on 10/07/92, 07/16/98, 07/29/02, and 05/13/10), leaving the scene of a property damage collision, driving while suspended or revoked, driving a commercial vehicle without an endorsement, escaping contents, and other traffic-related offenses. He was arraigned at JP3 and committed to Sussex Correctional Institution on $9,202 cash bond.
