Two People Charged in Easton Shoplifting Spree

Posted:

EASTON, Md. – An adult and a juvenile face theft charges after police say they stole items from numerous stores in the same shopping center in Easton.

Easton police say officers were summoned to the parking lot of the J. C. Penney department store at 219 Marlboro Road Monday regarding a theft that was in progress or had just occurred.

Officers said that when they arrived on the scene, Taybriona Sykia Collins, 19, of Wood Duck Drive in Cambridge, and a juvenile had also stolen merchandise from Rue 21 and Kohl's and had torn off or damaged security tags from the items.

The Rue21 theft totaled $157.88, the J. C. Penney theft totaled $54.99, and the theft from Kohl's amounted to $862.96 in losses, police said. Damages to security devices totaled $140. Police say the subjects conspired to steal a total of $1,075.83 worth of merchandise.

Officers returned the stolen items to the stores after photographing and processing them.

Collins and the juvenile were taken into custody and transported to the Easton Police Department. The juvenile was charged, referred to the Department of Juvenile Services and subsequently released to his parent. Collins was formally charged with theft and malicious destruction.

Both await disposition in a court setting; the juvenile in Juvenile Court and Collins in District Court.

New Waterfront Hotel Breaks Ground in O.C., Part 2

The location of a new waterfront hotel that recently broke ground in Ocean City is raising some eyebrows with neighbors in the downtown area.

The Cambria Hotel is being built in the vacant lot that sits just north of the Route 50 drawbridge, meaning it will be one of the first things drivers see headed into town.

Brian Plimack, who lives just behind the development, said the hotel is too much of a drastic change to the town's skyline.
