No Change of Venue in Scarborough Case

SALISBURY, Md. - 18-year-old Jocori Scarborough, accused of raping a 15-year-old female student inside a Wicomico County school, will not have his trial moved out of the county.  Scarborough's defense attorney made the motion for a change of venue Thursday in court, but the motion was denied.

Scarborough was indicted on six charges, including second degree rape and second degree assault stemming from an incident at Parkside High School in Salisbury, back in May.  Scarborough allegedly raped a 15-year-old female student in a school hallway while class was in session.

Scarborough is also a member of the group "DDE," also known as Doverdale Entertainment.  The group made local headlines with their online music videos containing guns and violent lyrics.

Scarborough's attorney argued in court on Thursday that the media coverage has been disproportionate to a normal sexual assault case.  The attorney said some of the articles and blog posts that were written went above and beyond normal fact-based reporting.

However, after taking a recess to review those articles, the judge ruled a change of venue will only take place if there is an inability to get an impartial jury in Wicomico County.  Scarborough's jury trial is scheduled to begin in mid-September.
