Jury Deliberating in Delaware Murder Case

Posted: Updated:

WILMINGTON, Del. (AP) - A jury is deliberating the case of a man accused of killing the father of the woman who is the mother of his child.

The case against Gerard Schweiger went to the jury on Thursday.

He is accused of killing 45-year-old Tony Mozick, of Leipsic. Mozick is the father of Jennifer Barnes, the mother of Schweiger's young child.

Schweiger faces first-degree murder charges. Prosecutors say he wanted to eliminate the relative that stood between him and Barnes.

Prosecutors say the death stems from a January 2013 fight between Schweiger and Mozick. Schweiger and Barnes were accused of dumping the body from a bridge into the Leipsic River.

Barnes received an 18-month prison sentence in August 2013 after pleading guilty to tampering with evidence and other charges.
