DOVER, Del.- AAA Mid-Atlantic projects 93,500 Delawareans will journey 50 miles or more from home during the Labor Day holiday weekend, the highest volume for the holiday since 2008 and a 1.6 percent increase over 2013.

The Labor Day travel period is defined as Thursday, Aug. 28 to Monday, Sept. 1.

“Starting with Memorial Day weekend, this summer's holiday travel has seen a gradual increase compared to prior years,” said Jim Lardear, director of public and government affairs for AAA Mid-Atlantic. “The modest rise we're projecting for Labor Day can be attributed to greater consumer confidence, which has led to more spending. The travel industry should see this trend continue.”

AAA Mid-Atlantic said motorists will find the lowest gas prices for Labor Day since 2010. Delaware's average gas price on Friday was $3.34. In Maryland it was $3.38.
