SALISBURY, Md. – The Salisbury University volleyball program looks to build off the success of the previous season under Head Coach Justin Turco.
The team spent the offseason working to improve its chances in the 2014 season. The Sea Gulls welcomed back the majority of last year's team with only two seniors lost to graduation.
“We have had a great preseason,” Turco said. “Everyone is just looking to get better and continue off the success we had last year.”
Coming off of a Capital Athletic Conference tournament match appearance and third-straight NCAA tournament appearance, the Sea Gulls are looking to earn the program's ninth CAC championship. The team is more versatile than last year, according to Turco.
Two of the top hitters in the conference, sophomore, Katie Stouffer, and senior, Julie Poston, return to the team as leaders this season. Both were named to the 2013 All-CAC teams.
Also returning to the team are senior hitters, Nikki Binetti and Kirby Buttry, who were ranked fifth and sixth on the team last season. Junior, Colleen White, and freshman, Samantha Chubb, return as hitters as well.
The skills of junior, Kacey Franz, and incoming freshman, Alexis Howatt and Rachel Pierson, will combine for the position of setter. The Sea Gulls' defensive line up includes senior and four-year starter, Michelle Meehan, along with sophomores, Gina Fischetti and Krista Pecenka.
The volleyball program starts the season with the Salisbury University Opener tournament from Aug. 29-30.
