Mid Atlantic Family Practice Set to Reopen

LEWES, Del. - After burning down in April, the Mid Atlantic Family Practice is on the fast track to be reopened by early December.

The building was a total loss, needing 15 fire companies to extinguish the flames. It was determined a lit cigarette in mulch around the building started the fire.

Not even a year later, the office is already being rebuilt. CEO Jeffrey J. Heckert MD said it is set to reopen in time for the holidays.

"We're thrilled," he explained. "To think that the building burned down in April and to get it back in November or December is pretty remarkable for a project of this size."

Doctors had been transplanted to a temporary office in Millsboro. That location will close once the Lewes building is rebuilt. The practice also has a permanent location in Millsboro which will operate as usual.

While mostly everything was destroyed in the fire, all patient information was backed up in two locations and no data was lost.

Heckert said he appreciates how understanding his patients have been. He also said the new building will be nearly identical to the old one, just not with mulch on the outside.
