DANBURY, Conn. – Wesley College's Sarah Daniels has been named the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Field Hockey Defensive Player of the Week, it was announced by the league office on Wednesday afternoon. This is the first time that Daniels has been recognized by the ECAC after receiving the Capital Athletic Conference Player of the Week award on Tuesday.
A senior from Pocomoke, Md., Daniels made 12 saves in the in the Wolverines' season-opening, 2-1, double overtime upset victory over No. 19 Lynchburg last Saturday. Daniels was instrumental in keeping Wesley, who was outshot 29-14, in the game, and helping the Navy & White rally from an early one-goal deficit.
Earlier this afternoon, Daniels made another seven saves in a 2-1 victory at Immaculata to give the Wolverines a 2-0 record on the year.
Daniels and the Wolverines return to action on September 5-6 for the Salisbury Invitational where they will take on Hendrix at 7 pm in the opener followed by Virginia Wesleyan the following afternoon at 2 pm. Fans can follow the action from Salisbury, Md., by logging onto www.GoWesleyAthletics.com.
