Improvements Planned for Hearns Pond Dam

DOVER, Del.- The Department of Transportation and Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control will hold a public information meeting Wednesday, Sept. 10 on planned improvements to the Hearns Pond Dam near Seaford.

DNREC is inviting residents living near the pond, the surrounding community, and any other interested parties to attend the meeting.

The meeting will take place from 4-7 p.m. in the Public Resources Room at Seaford High School, 399 North Market Street, Seaford, DE 19973.
According to DelDOT and DNREC, a study indicated the Hearns Pond Dam was damaged during storms in August of 2001 and June of 2006.  They say it needs to be fixed in order to comply with the Delaware Dam Safety Regulations.  The state plans to replace the spillway and the twin box culverts at the dam.  They say this would make it safe in the event of a 100 year storm.

Construction is expected to begin from the spring of 2015 to the spring of 2016.

The boat ramp and parking area on the north end of the dam will be closed during construction.

People who go to the meeting will have an opportunity to review display materials and speak with representatives from both DelDOT and DNREC.
