GOP Candidate Valenzuela Lends Campaign $123K

DOVER, Del. (AP) - Republican candidate for state treasurer Sher Valenzuela has lent her campaign another $123,000 in advance of the Sept. 9 GOP primary.

In a campaign finance report filed this week, Valenzuela reported raising only about $2,500 over the past three weeks, while spending more than $86,000, including reimbursements to her husband and another employee of her industrial upholstery business for campaign expenses.

Valenzuela's latest loans are in addition to the $25,100 she lent her campaign earlier last month.

Her primary opponent, Ken Simpler, reported raising about $14,600 in the three weeks ending Sept. 1, while spending more than $122,000.

Simpler lent his campaign $100,000 in July, bringing his total personal loans over the past year to slightly more than $130,000.

The GOP primary winner faces Democrat Sean Barney in November.
