Police Arrest Md. Mom in Deaths of Her 2 Children

Posted:
CHEVERLY, Md. (AP) - Police in Prince George's County say they've arrested a 24-year-old woman and charged her with killing her two young children at their home in Cheverly.

Police on Sunday identified the woman as Sonya Spoon. Police say they were called to her home on Forest Road shortly after 2 a.m. Sunday for a report of two children in respiratory distress. The children, a 1-year-old and a 3-year-old, later died at a hospital.

Police say Spoon acknowledged suffocating her children. An online court records system did not list an attorney for her.

Police say Spoon's motive is under investigation.
