Car Struck When Shots are Fired in Road Rage

Posted: Updated:

NEW CASTLE, Del. (AP) - Delaware State Police say a car was hit by gunfire during a road rage incident in New Castle.

Troopers say a man was driving on Route 273 about 8 a.m. Thursday and slowed to 20 mph, the posted speed limit. Police say a sedan began driving behind the car too closely, then pulled alongside the victim's car.

Authorities say the sedan's driver made an obscene gesture at the victim and drove past him.

Troopers say an SUV then pulled alongside the victim's car and the driver identified himself as the sedan driver's husband. Police say the SUV driver displayed a handgun and fired two shots at the victim's car, hitting it once. The victim was not hurt.

Officers say the victim drove to fire station and the SUV fled.
