Frankford Woman Killed after Two Vehicles Collide

DAGSBORO, Del.- A Frankford woman is dead after a two-vehicle collision that happened Friday afternoon near Dagsboro.

Delaware State Police say the crash happened at approximately 4:20 p.m. September 12, 2014. Troopers say 75-year-old Shirley S. Handy was driving a 1993 Ford Taurus southbound on Power Plant Road, approaching the intersection of Bunting Road.

State Police say 28-year-old Kyle T. Wilkins of Dagsboro was driving a 2007 Ford F-250 while pulling a dump trailer. Troopers say Wilkins was driving westbound on Bunting Road while approaching the intersection of Power Plant Road.

Troopers say Handy appeared to slow her car down when she approached a stop sign, but then continued driving past the stop sign and directly into the path of the pick-up truck.

According to Delaware State Police, Wilkins had the right of way when the front of his truck slammed into the driver's side of Handy's car.

Troopers say Shirley Handy was pronounced dead at the scene. She was not wearing a seatbelt.

State Police say Kyle Wilkins and two passengers were all wearing seatbelts and were not injured.

Troopers say the intersection of Power Plant Road and Bunting Road was closed for approximately three hours as the crash was investigated and cleared.
