Missing Boater's Body Found in Norfolk

NORFOLK, Va. – The Coast Guard and partner agencies have ended their search for a missing boater after reports of a body washing ashore in Norfolk.

Police said they received reports of a possible body found washed ashore in Norfolk on Sunday around 6:25 a.m. The body was later identified as 51-year-old Milton Hayslett, the registered owner of the boat.

Norfolk 911 dispatch operators first alerted Coast Guard Sector Hampton Roads Command Center around 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, when they received a call about an adrift 8-foot dinghy with the engine down.

Watchstanders issued an urgent marine information broadcast Saturday night and dispatched three crews from Portsmouth and a MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter from Coast Guard Air Station Elizabeth City, North Carolina. Personnel from Virginia Marine Resources Commission and a boat crew from the Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries are  assisted in the search.

The Coast Guard said the Norfolk Police Department called off the search Sunday morning after a body was found.

The Norfolk Police Department is taking over the investigation, and said they have categorized this incident as an "undetermined death." The medical examiner will issue the official cause of death.
