Fire Destroys Poultry House in Wicomico County


SALISBURY, Md.- Authorities are investigating a weekend fire that caused approximately $150,000 in damage to a poultry house in southern Wicomico County.

The Maryland State Fire Marshal's Office said the blaze occurred shortly before 2 a.m. Saturday at the 35-foot by 320-foot structure located at 27421 Riverside Drive Extended in Salisbury. It took 30 firefighters from the Fruitland, Allen and Salisbury Station 1 fire departments approximately half an hour to get the fire under control.

There were no reported injuries. The fire caused an estimated $130,000 damage to the structure and another $20,000 in damage to its contents.

Investigators determined the fire started inside the building but the cause is still unknown.
