No Verdict in Trial of Former DSU Professor

Posted:

DOVER, Del. (WBOC) - A full day of jury deliberations and still no verdict in the high-profile case of a former Delaware State University professor.

Jahi Issa faces one count of resisting arrest - a misdemeanor. Issa was arrested at a protest on the DSU campus in March of 2012. The protestors were pushing for the historically black school to maintain that identity.

In the video WBOC shot that day - video that was actually used as evidence in the trial - Issa was shown being taken away from the protest in a stretcher. He went to the ground while police were trying to break up the protest.

The questions the jury is grappling with are did Issa know he was being detained by police and does what he did constitute resisting arrest.

The jury came back into the courtroom around four and said they were deadlocked. Another hour of deliberations didn't produce a verdict. The foreman actually said he didn't think that would change. They'll pick their deliberations back up Wednesday morning.
