Newark Police Seek Man Who Started 2 House Fires

Posted: Updated:
NEWARK, Del. (AP) - Police in Newark are looking for a man they say started fires in two homes, one while the residents were in their bedrooms.

Police say the man walked into an unlocked back door of a Newark home early Saturday while two 21-year-old residents were in their bedrooms.

The man put loose pieces of mail on the stove and lit the burners before leaving. The two residents put out the fire after a smoke alarm went off around 12:15 a.m.

Shortly after, police say a man reported coming home to find his apartment filled with smoke. He found that someone had put a roll of paper towels on the stove and lit the burners. The fire had burned itself out before the man got home around 12:30 a.m.
