Car Electrical Fire Causes More Than $5,000 in Damage

SALISBURY, Md. – The Maryland State Fire Marshal is investigating a car fire that caused an estimated $5,000 worth of damage.

A neighbor discovered a man's 2002 Volkswagen Jetta on fire at his home on Snow Hill Road shortly after 6 p.m. Saturday, the office of the state fire marshal reports.

Four firefighters from Salisbury Station 16 extinguished the blaze within about five minutes.

The fire was ruled accidental and investigators said it was caused by an electrical fire that began in the car's engine compartment.

In addition to $5,000 in structural damage, and estimated $100 of contents were destroyed, fire officials said.
