Juvenile Arrested After Fight at Harrington Church

HARRINGTON, Del.– Harrington police say they have arrested a 14-year-old Ellendale juvenile for assault following a large fight that broke out at a church.

Officers said that while on foot patrol Friday night, Sept. 19, they went to Calvary Wesleyan Church on Delaware Avenue, which hosts concerts for school-age children every Friday evening. According to police, while there the officers observed a large fight break out.

Police said the officers, who called for additional units, began clearing out the large crowd and discovered that there was a 13-year-old victim that had been assaulted.

Police located the victim, who has autism, and determined that he was struck in the face by the 14-year-old. The victim suffered from a swollen cheek and other minor facial injuries.

Police found the suspect walking away from the church on Delaware Avenue and took him into custody. The juvenile was charged with one count of third-degree-assault and turned over to the custody of his parent pending a future court appearance in Kent County Family Court.

The Harrington Police Department was assisted by the Felton and Wyoming police departments and Delaware State Police.
