SALISBURY, Md. - A Salisbury heroin dealer was sentenced to 20 years in prison on Monday, according to authorities.

According to the state's attorney's office, 48-year-old Arnold Darnall Miles, of Salisbury, Maryland, was convicted and sentenced on one count of possession with the intent to distribute heroin. Authorities say Miles was sentenced to the maximum sentence of 20 years in the Maryland Division of Corrections.

Police say Miles had pending charges related to a drug investigation conducted by members of the Maryland State Police Gang Enforcement Unit and members of the Salisbury Police Department's Safe Streets Unit. According to police, Miles was arrested on March 19 after a substantial amount of heroin was discovered during the course of a traffic stop. While out on bond in that case, police say investigators learned that Miles had returned to selling heroin.

Based upon information gathered during their investigation, police say investigators secured a search and seizure warrant for Miles' Salisbury residence. On May 3, police say investigators executed that search and seizure warrant upon Miles' residence which resulted in the seizure of a large amount of heroin, multiple digital scales, a fake soda can with a hollow center used to conceal heroin, and $528 in cash.

Police say on August 20, Miles was convicted of possession with the intent to distribute heroin in relation to the March 19 traffic stop. Police say Miles was sentenced to the maximum sentence of 20 years in prison for that charge. Then on September 22, police say Miles appeared in court again, this time in relation to the event on May 3 and was sentenced to another 20 years of active incarceration consecutive to the previous sentence.

Police say Miles' new conviction represents his seventh drug-related conviction, his fifth drug-related felony conviction, and his twelfth criminal conviction since 1986.

Wicomico County State's Attorney Matthew A. Maciarello commended the Maryland State Police Gang Enforcement Unit and the Salisbury Police Department's Safe Streets Unit for their work in the investigation and prosecution of this case. Mr. Maciarello also thanked Assistant State's Attorney James L. Britt who prosecuted Miles in both cases.
