Cambridge Businesses Impressed By Ironman Numbers

Posted:
CAMBRIDGE, Md.- It was a weekend of mosts for many business owners in Cambridge.  Most customers on a weekday, most customers on a Saturday, most customers over a four day span.

Ironman Maryland may be over, but business owners and their employees are still in shock over just how big of an impact the event had on the small city.  Many business owners WBOC spoke with over the several day span said they were expecting an uptick in business, but were surprised to be slammed from open to close on all four days surrounding the inaugural event.

Patrick Fanning, owners of a number of restaurants in the city including High Spot and Stoked, says he was just one of many store owners surprised by the turnout.

"It was our busiest four day stretch ever.  From Thursday at 7:00 until Sunday at 10:00 in the evening.  We were expecting to be busy but not on that magnitude.  It's awesome, it was a great problem to have but it was a very very busy day," said Fanning.

Some businesses tell us they felt understaffed, even if they were full staffed.  But they say they will be even more prepared for next year, and are already looking forward to at least four more Ironman triathlons in their backyard.
