UPDATE: Vice President Biden Stops in Virginia

Posted: Updated:
NORFOLK, Va. (AP) - Vice President Joe Biden traveled to Virginia to call for spending more to improve the nation's infrastructure.

Biden received a briefing at the Port of Virginia's busiest terminal in Norfolk on Wednesday from port officials. The port recently received a $15 million federal transportation grant to connect Norfolk International Terminals with Interstate 564. It will also help pay for a new intermodal gate at the terminal.

The grant will be matched by $16 million from the Virginia Port Authority. Once complete, officials say the project re-route more than 700 trucks off neighboring residential streets and save about $4 million each year on highway maintenance costs. It's also expected to increase terminal capacity by 1.2 million container units.
