Maryland State Police Arrest Suspect in Armed Robbery

CAROLINE COUNTY, Md.- Maryland State Police say they have charged a man in connection with an armed robbery in Caroline County.

Police say the male suspect is 46-year-old Derrick Antoine Jefferson of Denton, Md. According to police, the incident happened Sept. 25 around 10:30 a.m. Police say he entered the Save A Lot Food Store in Greensboro, dressed in all black with a hoodie. According to troopers, the suspect showed a handgun and demanded money from the register and cashier. Police say the store manager and two other patrons tackled the suspect and disarmed him before he made it out of the store. Police say he was restrained until Maryland State Police arrived to take him into custody.

According to police, there were no injuries to any personnel involved. Troopers say the firearm, was a plastic Model 1911 Airsoft gun and was recovered on the scene. When police arrived, they say the stolen money was still on the suspect.

Police charged Jefferson with armed robbery, firearm use in a felony, theft less than $1,000, 1st and 2nd degree assault, felon in possession of a firearm, CDS possession- Heroin, and CDS paraphernalia.

Police say the suspect was held at Caroline County Detention Center.

Maryland State Police Criminal Enforcement Division, the Caroline County States Attorney's office, Caroline County Sheriff's Department and Ridgley Police Department assisted in the case.
