NEWARK, Del. (WBOC/AP)- Delaware State Police say a Wilmington man who crashed into a stopped car along State Route 1 in Newark has died of his injuries.
Troopers say 69-year-old Ralph A. Fausnaugh was traveling on State Route 1 just north of the split for the I-95 northbound ramp and Delaware Route 7 on Tuesday when his car veered to the right and hit another car parked on the right-hand shoulder of the roadway.
The second car was hit so hard that it struck the endcap of a guardrail. Fausnaugh's car traveled across the highway and came to rest on the shoulder. Fausnaugh, who police said was not wearing a seatbelt, was pronounced dead at Christiana Hospital Trauma Center.
The people inside the second car, a 37-year-old woman and a 39-year-old man from Bear, were taken to Christiana Hospital Trauma Center where they were treated for minor injuries and released. They were wearing seatbelts, according to police.
The crash remains under investigation and police say alcohol or drug use are not being considered as factors.
