Police Investigate Assault by Person Impersonating an Officer

SALISBURY, Md. - Maryland State Police are investigating an assault that happened by a person pretending to be a police officer.

Troopers say it happened around 11:40 a.m. Wednesday on the Salisbury Bypass. Police say the victim was taken to Peninsula Regional Medical Center for head, neck and other bodily injuries.

At PRMC, Trooper say they met with the victim and learned she was on the Salisbury Bypass when she was pulled over by a dark colored un-marked vehicle with emergency lights in the dash that she thought was a police vehicle. Police say she told them a person walked up to her window and immediately began assaulting her.

While speaking with the victim, police say she stated that she was robbed during the assault.

Police say the victim described the suspect as an African American male wearing a darker colored blue shirt and matching pants. Police say the suspect is believed to have been impersonating a police officer, and is described as being approximately five foot nine and in his mid-forties.

Anyone with any information is asked to call the Maryland State Police Barrack at 410-749-3101 or the Wicomico County Bureau of Investigations at 410-548-4898.
