Lewes Man Charged in Two Arsons, Vandalism

Posted:
LEWES, Del. - A 19-year-old Lewes man faces arson and other charges in connection with multiple fires in the Lewes area.

The Delaware State Fire Marshal's office says 19-year-old Andrew S. Thompson was arrested Thursday morning.

Deputy Fire Marshals say Thompson is connected to three fires that all occurred on September 25. Fire officials say the first one happened early that morning at a house trailer in the 22000 block of Pine Road in Angela Neck Park. This was followed by a fire at a garage and a boat that happened around 3:00 a.m. in the 23000 block on Pine Road. Fire officials say that fire caused $25,000 in damages.

Deputy Fire Marshals say a jet ski was also vandalized the same night in the 22000 block of Pine Road.

Thompson is charged with three counts of arson in the second degree and third-degree burglary, which are both felonies, and criminal mischief as well as criminal trespassing, which are misdemeanors. Fire officials say Thompson was arraigned at Magistrate Court 3 and released to the custody of the DE Department of Corrections Probation and Parole.

The State Fire Marshal's office is continuing to investigate these incidents. Anyone with information is asked to contact the State Fire Marshal's Sussex Division at (302) 856-5600 or Crime Stoppers at (800) TIP-3333.
