DOVER, De. – Students from the Delaware Tech Terry Campus Homeland Security and Criminal Justice programs recently had the opportunity to experience first-hand a Homeland Security Training on Protective Measures. The training, held on campus Sept. 24-25, was presented by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and was attended by representatives from law enforcement agencies and industries critical to the state's infrastructure and delivery of primary goods and services.

“It was a tremendous opportunity to be able to have our students participate in a real-world training that reinforces what they are learning and discussing in the classroom,” said Nicole Shuler-Geer, Department Chair of the Terry Campus Criminal Justice program. “And they weren't simply bystanders observing the session; they were interacting and working on tabletop exercises with professionals in their fields of interest. It was a wonderful learning experience for all of them.”

Discussion is already taking place on having another on-site training next year, and Shuler-Geer hopes it develops into an annual event.

“Being able to participate in the training is a fantastic opportunity by itself,” she said. “But establishing and building a relationship with the Department of Homeland Security and the agencies and industries in need of those protective and preventive services is of even greater value for our programs and our students.”

Del Tech offers an associate degree programs in  Homeland Security and Criminal Justice at the College's Georgetown and Stanton campuses.
