Man Arrested After Child Found Walking Along Road

Posted:
HARRINGTON, Del.-A Harrington man was arrested after police find 4 year old walking along the roadway.

Police say on September 24th the School Resource Officer for the Harrington Police Department was contacted while he was at WT Chipman Middle School by a concerned citizen about a small child walking alone along Park Brown Rd.

Police began searching the area and located the 4 year old child walking along the road by herself.

Officers took custody of the child. During the course of the investigation officers say they determined that the child lived at Clarks Corner Apartments but was unable to contact the child's mother.

Police say they were finally able to contact the child's mother at her work and police determined that the child was being watched by her uncle Steven R. Huey 34, of the 100 Block of Dorman St. while the child's mother was at work.

Police then went to Mr. Huey's residence but were unable to contact him.

Police say they then obtained a warrant for Mr. Huey. On October 1st, Mr. Huey turned himself into the Harrington Police Department and was charged with one count of Endangering the Welfare of a Child.

He was arraigned via video phone at Justice of the Peace Court 2 and was released on $1,000 unsecured bond.
