EDEN, Md. An elderly couple who were victims of a violent home invasion on Oct. 6 in a small Wicomico County community are rallying not only support, but security from family and friends.

Doris and Ulysess Polk, both in their 80s, have a number of relatives taking turns visiting their home and even spending the night, to deter any would-be intruders.

“We're going to come down here to check on them every single day and to make sure that they're good,” said Brendia DeShields, the couple's niece. “That's the main thing. This whole road right now is on high alert. So we're going to hold on strong.”

Ulysess was pistol-whipped in the head during the robbery, in which the assailants rifled through the couple's belongings looking for money and car keys. Ulysses was taken to Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury for his injury that needed several stitches.

“We're not going to be scared,” said Ashley Polk, the couple's granddaughter. “Everybody around here is going to protect themselves and everybody's gearing up and I guess they're ready.”

The Wicomico County Bureau of Investigation is currently working on finding the people who committed the crime. So far, no arrests have been made.
