Volunteers Needed to Install Raised Beds at Berlin Branch Library Garden
BERLIN, Md - Worcester County and Berlin Branch Library Master Gardeners are seeking adult volunteers to assist them with the Berlin Branch Library Garden on Saturday, October 25, 2014, from 9 a.m. till noon. Adult volunteers are needed to install two raised beds and fill them with soil.
Those assisting are asked to bring their own shovels if possible. Additional shovels will be available on a limited basis to adults who would like to assist but lack this tool.
This community project serves to demonstrate sustainable, chemical-free gardening and healthier food choices to the public. During the 2014 growing season, the garden produced 425 pounds of fresh produce that was donated to Diakonia, a shelter serving the homeless in West Ocean City, and Stevenson United Methodist Church in Berlin. These nonprofit organizations serve area residents in need of food assistance.
Grant funds to build two additional raised bed systems, purchase soil and miscellaneous gardening materials were awarded by the Community Foundation of the Eastern Shore.
