NEW CASTLE, Del. - The next time NASCAR drivers hit the track, keep an eye out for car number 40. A 14-year-old student in Delaware designed the exterior of the race car, that's according to the Colonial School District in northern Delaware.

Brenden Berg is a freshman at William Penn High School in New Castle. He says he's been a NASCAR fan since the age of two. School leaders say Berg took his passion for racing into his digital media class. They say Berg submitted the design on his own and was informed it was officially accepted by NASCAR late last month.

NASCAR Driver Matt DiBenedetto is scheduled to debut the newly designed vehicle owned by The Motorsports Group (TMG) at the Charlotte Motor Speedway in Charlotte, North Carolina on Friday.

"Brenden is a perfect example of how our students in Colonial are learning to apply what they are taught to their career goals," says Superintendent Dr. Dusty Blakey. "Not many teenagers would take the initiative that Brenden did to submit a design to an entity as large as NASCAR, but we encourage our students to think big!"

Brenden says he was surprised to receive a letter stating his design was approved and hopes to pursue a career in digital media once he graduates from William Penn High School.
