HOPEWELL, Va. (AP/WBOC)- The head of poultry company Perdue Farms Inc. is expecting continued growth for its Virginia operations.

CEO Jim Perdue spoke Thursday to a group of business leaders at the Hopewell-Prince George Visitors Center in Hopewell. He says Virginia is an important part of the Maryland-based business.

Perdue, which is headquartered in Salisbury, Maryland, has about 2,800 employees in Virginia. It has facilities at the Port of Richmond and in Chesapeake, Accomac, Bridgewater, Prince George and Tappahannock.

Perdue is looking for ways to increase capacity at its shipping facility in Chesapeake. It also could see increased activity at its Port of Richmond facility.

Perdue also praised state officials for helping to end the more than seven-year Chinese ban on poultry shipments originating in Virginia.
